Huntsville Staycation

Whether you live in Huntsville, AL or are looking to make a visit here, I can tell you what an amazing city it is and how fun it is to spend a weekend (or more) exploring such a great city.

First of all, let’s start about where to stay if doing an overnight trip. Rae and I had the opportunity to stay at Huntsville Marriott at the Space and Rocket Center. When making your reservation there, be sure to ask if a room facing the rockets is available. At night time, you will get to see a beautiful rocket lit up for most of the city to see. The mornings are just as gorgeous with that view. We had a room with two queen beds. We had plenty of storage and room for our weekend. Everything about the room was great for a weekend getaway.
The hotel also has a brand new restaurant open (The Southern Chop) and from personal experience, the breakfast is amazing!! I had the steak and eggs our first morning during our stay and everything was perfect! I have no doubt that their dinner is just as good as their breakfast.

Speaking of food, we were able to eat at Oshi Poke Bowl & Sushi, Straight to Ale, and Cookie Dough Magic of Huntsville. Friday evening for dinner, we ate at Oshi Poke Bowl & Sushi. I had two rolls of sushi (Philadelphia roll and an Avocado roll) Y’ALL!!!! Both rolls were AMAZING!! Rae had the Asian Poke Bowl and would highly recommend it! We also ordered fried potstickers (YUMMM!!). We went back the next day for lunch and ordered Chicken Ramen, which were delicious and will make it very hard to decide what to eat next time we go back.
At Cookie Dough Magic, I had sweet & salty and Rae had fudge brownie batter. They have a variety of sizes you can get (as well has having the dough in cups or waffle cones – the waffle cones have different flavors as well). The prices are great and perfect for a family outing or date night.
With Straight to Ale, let me begin by saying there are so many places in Huntsville that you can find some really great wings. I would love to spend a whole week just eating wings at all of those places. Straight to Ale is definitely on the list of places to grab some wings for me. I had the tangy bbq sauce on my wings and Rae had the jerk-buffalo sauce on hers. Go with either or even one of their other sauces. The wings themselves were big and so good; so good in fact that I could I have ate them without sauce.

Now, on to what to do! After eating dinner at Straight to Ale, which is located at Campus 805, we headed upstairs and over to Civil Axe Throwing; they have locations in a few others cities. I am so thankful that Huntsville is one of those cities. We booked for one hour of throwing time. For two people this was a great amount of time to throw axes. The employees there are helpful and informative. The environment is a lot of fun! We were really pleased with our time there. It would great for a group outing, date night, team building, birthday party, etc. If your group is a larger group, I might suggest going for a larger time to throw being requested or they even have the option to have a private throwing session – which would be just as fun for a large group.
We spent to time at Lowe Mill as well on our staycation. Lowe Mill has some really amazing shops throughout the mill as well as places to eat. They have events there throughout the year like concerts, movie nights, art shows, etc. They have art classes available in some of the studios there. If you want to dress retro or like Ms. Frizzle, there is the cutest little Retro Boutique inside the mill. It is a great place to take some fun pictures, have lunch, shop, and just walk around.

Huntsville truly does have a lot to offer and there is so much more to do and places to eat at. I have been here for four years and still get excited about new (to me) discoveries and I want to share those with you all! If you visit here, let us know what you enjoyed and if you checked out the recommendations I wrote about above. If you post to instagram, we would love it if you tagged us!
Over time, I will post more about those places, but in the mean time, be sure that you are following our instagram account (breathemaintain) to stay up to date on adventures in both Huntsville and Nashville.
